The Hope and Light Foundation
The Hope and Light Foundation is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit public charity founded in December of 2004 by Aaron and Stephanie Miller. Stunned by the diagnosis of their first child with SMA Type I, the Millers dedicated themselves to caring for their daughter and finding a cure for a disease they had never heard of.

Mission & Values

Mission Statement Of
The Hope and Light Foundation:

Through faith, hope, and love, the Hope and Light Foundation endeavors to eliminate Spinal Muscular Atrophy, empower our community, and create a foundation stone upon which cures for all childhood genetic diseases can be built.

Seven Core Values of the Hope and Light Foundation

  1. Our faith in God drives us; it gives us certainty in a future without SMA.
  2. We believe medical science has the ability to eliminate the pain and suffering of genetic disease, making the future of an afflicted child better than their past.
  3. By our work, we respect and honor the struggles and hardships of families fighting for the lives of their children.
  4. We believe in the community's ability to solve social problems that our government and commercial medicine are unwilling or unable to take on.
  5. We value the dignity of life, as it exists in a child.
  6. We believe we can remove the fear of the unknown in childbirth, caused by genetic disease.
  7. We believe curing SMA is a foundational step in eliminating childhood genetic disease.
